The best areas in Koh Samui for nightlife are:

.

1. Chaweng Beach

As said in the introduction, there is one particular area in Koh Samui for nightlife and that is Chaweng Beach. It’s the most vibrant part of the island and it attracts many party-minded travellers, first-time travellers and hedonistic travellers. You can even find families here though, but there are much better areas in Koh Samui for families. The best area for nightlife on Koh Samui is around Soi Green Mango. Here, you can find all sorts of bars, clubs and venues. Although this area is relatively small compared to other party destinations in Thailand, many bars are concentrated on and around this street. If you pick a hotel in Chaweng, you are as close to the action as you can get. Once all the bars close, head over to Ark Bar if you want to party until the early hours. 2. Lamai Beach

Lamai Beach is a relatively quiet area that mostly attracts families and couples. But it does have a bit of a nightlife scene that’s noteworthy. First of all, there are several beach clubs to be found, which are perfect to lounge while sipping strong cocktails. Remember those pictures of fire dancers on the beach? That also takes place at Lamai Beach. This area also attracts more experienced Thailand travellers, who don’t want to be bothered by locals while partying on Chaweng Beach. Many of these experienced travellers, often single men, spend their evenings at the Lamai Beer Plaza in the hope of finding company. Around the Beer Plaza, there are several bars and clubs to be found. Some of our most recommended hotels in this nightlife area are visually listed below:

3. Bophut

You wouldn’t think a laid-back area like Bophut has a nightlife scene, but in fact, it does. There are plenty of bars to be found, but keep in mind that you won’t find many young travellers here, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. When staying at Bophut, you stay away from the crowds that you find at Chaweng. If you’re into smaller bars where you can watch the world go by, Bophut is definitely an option. But young, hedonistic travellers most likely pick either Chaweng Beach or Lamai Beach. In and around Fishermen’s Village, you can find nice beachfront venues. One of the best beachfront places here is Coco Tam’s, which is ideal for couples and families. Some of our most recommended hotels in this nightlife area are visually listed below:

Alternative: visit the nearby Full Moon Party at Koh Phangan

One of the largest parties in Thailand takes place on Haad Rin Beach on Koh Phangan. It only takes place once a month, as the name already suggests, during the full moon. Three days before the party itself, the island gets completely crowded with young, party-minded travellers. Finding a hotel is quite a challenge during this period. You have the option to visit Koh Phangan’s Full Moon Party by taking the speedboat. Make sure to find a responsible operator who doesn’t overcrowd the boat and has plenty of life jackets on board. If there is no Full Moon Party during your stay at Koh Samui, you have to opportunity to party at the Half Moon Party, which takes one week and one week after the Full Moon Party in a different location on Koh Phangan. Check out our article about where to stay in Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party for more details about these events, including three other parties on Koh Phangan.
