All recommended areas are located near a BTS Station (or MRT Station), which are stations of the public transportation system. We highly recommend you use public transport to move around in Bangkok to save your precious time. Stuck in traffic is a common thing when taking taxis and other road vehicles. In this article, we don't recommend areas based on city highlights but based on saving you precious travelling time, to make the most of your short stay. Besides, all areas (with one exception)have good access to the city's highlights. With that being said, let’s jump to our recommendations for those wondering where to stay in Bangkok for one night.
The best areas to stay in Bangkok for one night are:
1. Phaya Thai & Siam area
Perhaps the best area to stay in Bangkok for one night is near Phaya Thai and Siam BTS Station. Both areas are located right in the middle of the city and Phaya Thai has direct access to the airport rail link. Also, if you are required to use Don Muaeng Airport, Bang Sue Central Station (the newest central station) or Mo Chit Bus Terminal, you can easily use the Sky Train to reach these important transportation hubs. You can easily visit some of Bangkok’s highlights from either Phaya Thai BTS Station or Siam BTS Station. The combination of its central location and the fact that you have great access to all major public transportation stations makes, in our opinion, Phaya Thai and Siam BTS Station the best area to stay for 1 night.

Siam, one of the best areas to stay in Bangkok for 1 night. Also a great area for shopping!
With direct access to the Airport Rail Link, Phaya Thai is your answer to where to stay in Bangkok for one night.
2. Asoke area
Asoke is yet another recommended area to stay in Bangkok for one night due to its central location and the connection to public transport. Unfortunately, it does not have direct access to the Airport Rail Link, though the Airport Rail Link does have a stop nearby. You might want to consider Asoke if you want to explore Bangkok’s crazy nightlife, enjoy the benefits of both the BTS and the MRT stations or when you are planning to take the bus from Ekkamai’s Bangkok Bus Terminal (Eastern) to, for example, Pattaya. One of the benefits of staying near Asoke is the abundance of amazing hotels in all price categories.
Tip: with the extension of the metro line (MRT), you can now easily reach city highlights such as The Grand Palace and Chinatown with the MRT. We highly recommend you take advantage of the public transport systems in Bangkok because of their efficiency.

3. Suvarnabhumi Airport area
This is a no-brainer, but obviously, you can pick a hotel near Suvarnabhumi Airport if you have to be on time at Suvarnabhumi Airport the next day. You can find many decent hotels at Lat Krabang, the area near Suvarnabhumi Airport, that won’t break the bank. The downside is that you can’t reach the city centre without being stuck in traffic, so finding an activity during your stay is a bit challenging. We recommend you to visit the Train Market at Srinakarin for your evening activity, which is located relatively close to this area. Here you can find plenty of (street) food, cheap drinks and vintage goods. Another option would be visiting Udom Suk, an authentic neighbourhood with plenty of local restaurants where you won’t find many tourists.

4. On Nut area
You might want to consider staying around On Nut for one night if you need to use the highway for your next destination. Especially for those who are planning to visit places in the east such as Pattaya, Koh Samet or Koh Chang, it can save you plenty of time when you’re on the highway in the early morning before the traffic jams start. Besides, On Nut is located relatively close to Suvarnabhumi Airport, and Sukhumvit Soi 77 takes you to Lat Krabang and Suvarnabhumi Airport. The downside of this road (Sukhumvit 77) is that during day time, that road is completely full of traffic jams.
We picked On Nut, aside from its location, as a recommended area to stay in Bangkok for one night because you can easily visit city highlights and nightlife by using the BTS transportation system. Also, On Nut is a popular area for ex-pats as rents are relatively cheap compared to other parts of Bangkok while still being in a vibrant area. This also applies to hotel prices: you can find good, affordable hotels here. But keep in mind: there are better areas to stay in Bangkok for one night if you have to catch a flight to your next destination.
