Wondering what food to eat in Sukhothai? In this article, we cover the best and most unique Sukhothai food we came across during our visits to the popular city. Sukhothai is known for its ruins, but what most foreigners don’t know, is that Sukhothai is also known for its Sukhothai Noodles. When visiting Sukhothai, you can find this regional speciality in almost every Thai restaurant and trying these delicious noodles should be on your list too. But restaurants at Sukhothai have more to offer than noodles. With trying one of the following ten different Sukhothai food options, we guarantee that your trip to Sukhothai will be memorable.

The 10 best Sukhothai food are:

1. Sukhothai Noodle Soup (40 THB) at Ta Puy Noodle

When you are planning to eat Sukhothai Noodles, you should visit the restaurant that serves the most delicious version in the city. When you ask Sukhothai citizens where to find the best Sukhothai Noodles, the majority will point you to Ta Puy Noodle. This hugely popular local eatery is located on the twelve kilometres road that connects New Sukhothai with Old Sukhothai, so it’s a little bit difficult to reach if you don’t have your transportation. But we can assure you that it’s worth the trip. The noodle soup at Ta Puy Noodle has a distinctive red colour and is deliciously flavoured. Sukhothai Noodles are slightly sweeter and sourer than standard Thai noodles and are served with green beans and thinly sliced roasted pork. There are a handful of other food options available at Ta Puy as well, such as Pad Thai, Satay and Sukhothai Noodles Dry, however, the main attraction is the Sukhothai Noodle Soup (40 THB). The dry version is tasty too, but we found another place that served even better dry noodles, which is also listed in this article. More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Ta Puy Noodle.

2. Lab Sukhothai with Wild Olive Leaves (100 THB) at Na Kothai

We always love it when we find typical local specialities that you won’t find elsewhere in Thailand. In Sukhothai, the food at Na Kothai was exactly what we were looking for: with the use of local ingredients, a common dish such as Laab completely changed in flavour in a positive way. The Lab Sukhothai (100 THB) is much more herby than regular laab, and the use of wild olive leaves made it slightly sour, which was really tasty. But Na Kothai has much more to offer than an improved version laab: Keang Liang, which is a Sukhothai fish soup. This soup is packed with mushrooms and pumpkin and has a smoked fish in it, which gives it only slightly a fishy taste. If you want to try something completely new that you won’t easily find elsewhere in Thailand, make sure to order Keang Liang too. More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Na Kothai.

3. Sukhothai Noodles Dry (40 THB) at Mai Klang Krung

As mentioned earlier, during our visits in Sukhothai, we stumbled upon a restaurant that serves even better dry Sukhothai Noodles. That restaurant is Mai Klang Krung, a beautifully decorated Thai restaurant in New Sukhothai that’s specialized in noodles and Thai desserts. What makes these Sukhothai Noodles Dry (40 THB) so special is the many different textures and flavours it has. When you order Sukhothai Noodles as a soup, the flavours are already mixed together, but with dry noodles, you can play a little bit with the flavours as it’s not mixed yet. Also, the crunchiness of the pork is so amazingly delicious at Mai Klang Krung, that we highly recommend you to try these noodles for yourself. Make sure to leave a little bit of room in your stomach for dessert as it’s also a speciality of this great restaurant. More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Mai Klang Krung.

4. Pad Ped Pla (140 THB) at Lung Choi

Lung Choi is a popular Thai restaurant near the new city centre for both foreigners as locals. But the restaurant has two different menus, one is focussed for the western taste palate, the other one for the Thai taste palate. The western menu is not as interesting as the Thai menu as it offers mainly very common dishes such as fried rice, pad Thai and chicken cashew nuts. But we are here to help you to find exciting dishes, so we recommend you to order the Pad Pad Pla (140 THB), which is authentically spiced and packed with flavours. If you can handle a big of spiciness, Lung Choi is a very interesting restaurant to visit. Other highly recommended Sukhothai foods are Son Zhab Kai (60 THB) and Pla Rai Khluay Tod (140 THB). More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Pad Ped Pla.

5. 3 Styles Chili Paste Dip with Condiments (150 THB) at Agriculture Project Sukhothai Airport

This restaurant is located near the airport and what makes it so special is that they grow their own unique, high-quality vegetables. With those fresh vegetables, Agriculture Project Sukhothai Airport makes stunning looking and impressively tasting dishes. The absolute highlight of the menu is the 3 Styles Chili Paste Dip with Condiments (150 THB), which is a platter with three different dips where you can dip vegetables in. One of these vegetables is water lily stems, which have a great crunch. The dips are fresh and sour and have a unique taste. If you are flying from or to Sukhothai Airport, this restaurant is a must-visit. More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Agriculture Project Sukhothai.

6. Massaman Curry (70 THB) at Sweet Rice Cafe

Sweet Rice Cafe is a nice little cafe near Sukhothai Historical Park and is located just off the main road, giving it the feeling that you are somewhere completely remote. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and can be seen as one of the best places in Sukhothai. But it’s not only the looks that make people come back, the food at Sweet Rice Cafe is simply delicious and the dishes all look stunning. The absolute highlight of the menu was the Massaman Curry, of which the chicken was so incredibly tender that the meat fell off the bone with a little bit of pressure from the spoon. There are many other highly recommended dishes as all food is prepared with a great number of details. More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Sweet Rice Cafe.

7. Roasted Beef with Pineapple in Sweet & Sour Sauce (140 THB) at Lom & Fon Kitchen

Lom & Fon Kitchen is another popular restaurant near Sukhothai Historical Park, although there are - in our opinion - not so many great restaurants near the park. The restaurant looks great and the menu is focussed on both foreigners as Thai. Among the many dishes is their own creation, their speciality named Roasted Beef with Pineapple in Sweet & Sour Sauce (140 THB). This large portion of roasted beef has some similarities with chicken cashew nut, however, the sweet and sour sauce makes it far more delicious. As it’s not a spicy dish, this dish is hugely popular among tourists and we highly recommend you to try this deliciousness as well. More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Lom & Fon Kitchen.

8. Khao Moo Grob (30 THB) at Obey Restaurant

We discovered this local eatery by accident as we started noticing that every morning, Sukhothai citizens were waiting in line to get a seat at this place. This is always a good sign and we decided to check out what the fuzz was all about. It turns out that this place serves amazing Khao Moo Grob for a bargain at 30 THB per plate. Khao Moo Grob is a Chinese-influenced Thai dish that is made with crispy pork and covered in a thick, sweet gravy. The restaurant is open at 5:30 in the morning and from that moment on, hungry locals keep coming in. Another highly recommended dish at Obey Restaurant is their Khao Man Gai, which is steamed chicken with a spiced soy sauce. More information about this amazing local restaurant, such as the opening times, the location, more recommended Sukhothai food options and other TopTravelFoods users’ opinions, check out the TopTravelFoods review page of Obey Restaurant.

This hugely popular eatery opens its doors at two o’clock in the afternoon and from that moment on, delivery drivers and many local customers are ordering their bowl of dumpling soup. The most popular dumplings they serve are the Crab Dumplings (40 THB), but there are flavours like fish and pork are available too. 10. Deep-Fried Ruby Fish with Herbs (149 THB) at Ban Mi Hom HUG Sukhothai

This restaurant is perfect for an entertaining evening while enjoying seriously tasty Thai food. At Ban Mi Hom HUG Sukhothai, there is live-music performance while you can enjoy a small selection of Thai food and some ice-cold beers. The absolute highlight of the menu was is the Deep-Fried Ruby Fish with Herbs, which is a filleted ruby fish, deep-fried and covered in all sorts of herbs such as chilli, garlic and ginger. As the fish is filleted, you won’t find any fishbone. Each bite with those herbs is a true flavour explosion in your mouth.
