That does not mean there are no good restaurants in Old Sukhothai. Instead, there is a handful of highly recommended restaurants near Sukhothai Historical Park of which you should at least visit one of them. In this article, we cover the very best, local Thai restaurants in Old Sukhothai and near Sukhothai Historical Park, so that you can also enjoy amazing Thai food during the exploration of the ruins of Sukhothai.
The best restaurants in Old Sukhothai and near the Sukhothai Historical Park are:
1. Sweet Rice Cafe
Sweet Rice Cafe is probably your best options when you are looking for good restaurants near Sukhothai Historical Park. The restaurant is located just off the main road that connects Old Sukhothai with New Sukhothai and because it’s so remote and has a view on the beautiful nature Sukhothai has to offer, the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. Sweet Rice Cafe is a beautifully decorated cafe that offers a variety of classic Thai dishes and a variety of sweet desserts. All the dishes are reasonably priced, especially when you take the quality of the food into consideration, and the dishes are all beautifully presented. Highlights of the menu are the Massaman Curry (70 THB), the Chicken Satay (60 THB) and their homemade ice creams. We highly recommend you trying their Durian Ice Cream (70 THB), which is made with the king of fruits: durian. For those who are not familiar with the durian fruit, the smell and taste are a bit unusual for foreigners. Durian ice cream is a great way to get familiar with the taste as it’s not as intense as the fruit itself. More information about this popular cafe, such as the opening times, the location, other recommended dishes and TopTravelFoods users’ opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Sweet Rice Cafe.
2. Na Kothai
Na Kothai is located about four kilometres east of the Sukhothai Historical Park, which is actually too far for the requirement of being located near the Historical Park, however, this restaurant is one of the few restaurants that serves authentic Sukhothai dishes. Because of that, we decided to recommend this restaurant as well, as the food is so unique. For example, one of their signature dishes is the Keang Liang (120 THB), which is a Sukhothai fish soup with smoked fish, pumpkin and mushrooms and tastes like bean soup. Another great option is their Laab Sukhothai (100 THB), which is a Sukhothai-version of laab that is made of different herbs including Wild Olive Leaves that give it a more sour taste. Na Kothai is an amazing restaurant to taste authentic, local Thai food you won’t find elsewhere and for that reason, we placed it as number two on this list. More information about this popular cafe, such as the opening times, the location, other recommended dishes and TopTravelFoods users’ opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Na Kothai.

3. Lom & Fon Kitchen
One of the most popular restaurants in Old Sukhothai is Lom & Fon Kitchen due to its location and the quality of the food. This restaurant serves high-quality, well-flavoured classic Thai dishes and the restaurant is located just a few hundred meters from the Sukhothai Historical Park. Although the prices of the dishes are slightly higher than competitors, the quality of the food is great and the portions are huge. The menu consists of common Thai dishes such as Tom Yum Goong (180 THB), Penang Curry (100 THB) and Pad Kra Pao (120 THB). But we recommend you to try their signature dish Roasted Beef with Pineapple In Sweet & Sour Sauce (140 THB), which is their own creation. It’s like a chicken with cashew nut, however, it’s with roasted beef and everything is covered in a delicious herby sweet and sour sauce that is only slightly spicy. More information about this popular cafe, such as the opening times, the location, other recommended dishes and TopTravelFoods users’ opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Lom & Fon Kitchen.

4. Sinvana Restaurant
Sinvana Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Old Sukhothai and located close to the previous recommended restaurant Lom & Fon Kitchen. This place looks beautiful and especially in the evening when all the lights are turned on, Sinvana has Sinvana offers a variety of classic Thai dishes that most foreigners choose from, but also serve some authentic regional dishes that are, in our opinion, much more interesting. Among those interesting dishes is the Stir-Fried Fish with Chilli Sauce (180 THB), which is a fried white fish covered in a spicy dressing. Another unusual, yet interesting dish is the appetizer named Crispy Rice Noodle in Sweet Red Sauce (80 THB). If you are not comfortable to try these two dishes, don’t worry, the menu is large enough to have a good choice for any type of eater, for example, their Stir-Fried Chicken with Cashew Nut (120 THB) is the best-seller among foreigners and is really tasty. More information about this popular cafe, such as the opening times, the location, other recommended dishes and TopTravelFoods users’ opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Sinvana Restaurant.

5. Kwansiri Restaurant
Kwansiri is a local eatery northeast of the Sukhothai Historical Park right outside the old city walls and is a popular place for good, affordable Thai food. Although the restaurant does not look inviting from the outside, the food that is served can be seen as among the best, no-nonsense food in New Sukhothai. The menu of Kwansiri is large with a few Western options, but mainly commonly Thai classics, such as Deep-Fried Spring Rolls (80 THB), Pad Kra Pao (80 THB) and Penang Curry with Chicken (80 THB). Kwansiri is a restaurant that offers simple, clean Thai food that the majority of foreigners surely love. There are more exciting restaurants to find, as mentioned earlier in this article. As the quality of Thai restaurants in Old Sukhothai is in general below average, Kwansiri is most-definitely a delight. More information about this popular cafe, such as the opening times, the location, other recommended dishes and TopTravelFoods users’ opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Kwansiri Restaurant.
Bonus: Pla Phao Pa Sanwian
As you might have noticed, we always try to recommend restaurants that are exciting and offer more unique dishes compared to the usual suspects. The restaurant we recommend must serve high-quality dishes and not only offer a great ambience. As a bonus recommendation, the following restaurant is an interesting place for those who can handle plenty of spicinesses. Pla Phao Sanwian is located more than ten kilometres east from Sukhothai Historical Park, however, if you are exploring the outer ruins of the Historical Park, you will drive on the road that leads you to Pla Phao Pa Sanwian. Highlights of this local eatery are Fried Rural Fish with Chinese Vegetable (80 THB) and the Pla Tub Tim with Spicy Sauce (160 THB). More information about this popular cafe, such as the opening times, the location, other recommended dishes and TopTravelFoods users’ opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Pla Phao Pa Sanwian.
