Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is a popular restaurant located close to Bangkok’s international airport and with its iconic sculptures and structures, a real eye-catcher when you are driving from or to the airport. In this article, I will explain what makes Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant so special and what food you should try at this place.
Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is built around a lake, together with the Ammata Lanta Hotel. The restaurant has a huge amount of seating capabilities and when the guest sit at one of the tables, you can see the beautiful Ammata Lanta Hotel on the other side of the like. What makes Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant so unique is the amazing atmosphere they created. It is like you are in some sort of theme park with all sorts of sculptures, structures and beautiful nature which include small waterfalls, beautiful plants and koi fish. This oasis is something you won’t find easily in Bangkok and it’s what makes Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant so popular. This oasis of peace gets ‘disturbed’ every five minutes by its other cool feature: a low flying Boeing 777 that takes off from the airport. That’s right, you can enjoy aeroplane spotting during your stay at Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant, from small propeller planes to large four-engine planes.

During sunset, the restaurant gets even more beautiful with all the lights around the lake.

The signature dish of Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is Grilled Bubble Fish with Soy Sauce (520 THB). The fish has the same texture as a mackerel and is wrapped in tinfoil paper after being covered in soy sauce and garlic. There are no chillies being used with this fish, so it’s a safe and tasty option for those who don’t like (a lot of) spicy food. If you do like a bit of spiciness, I would recommend you trying the Fried Grouper Fish with Herbs Salad (650 THB). The fish is already carved in large chunks and then the chunks are crisply fried. The majority of the fish bones are removed but here and there you can still find a fishbone. Then, the fried fish is covered in a herb salad which includes onion, dried chilly, mint leaves and a sweet and sour dressing. The crispy fried grouper soaks up this dressing and the result is a crunchy fish packed with Thai flavours!
As the restaurant is so enormous, the amount of staff at Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is enormous too. Because of this, foods and drinks are served quickly and drinks are refilled before you even notice. The staff is doing the absolute best that you will enjoy your evening. Choosing what you want to order is a bit difficult as the menu is large with options like crab, river prawns snails and scallops, and most prices are shown in weight of the product, not the actual price. In general, Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is pricier than you are used to, but comparable restaurants don’t offer the same level of atmosphere. I would recommend you trying one of the following seafood options, as Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is specialized in seafood:
Grilled Bubble Fish with Soy Sauce (520 THB)
Fried Grouper Fish with Herbs Salad (650 THB)
Another really tasty option is the Stir-Fried Scallops with Black Pepper (350 THB). The scallops are served on a sizzling hot plate with a variety of chopped veggies, peppercorns and covered in a peppery sauce. I was actually really impressed by this dish as it was hearty yet still light. My final recommendation is their Tom Yum Mixed Seafood (220 THB), which comes in two sizes. The small-sized tom yum is perfect for two persons and the herbiness and spiciness were a great addition to our meal.

Overall verdict: Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is a special restaurant in Bangkok thanks to its beautiful location and good tasting seafood. Although a bit pricey compared to similar restaurants, the atmosphere here is so unique it’s worth the few extra bahts. If you stay close to the airport for your flight back home, I would recommend visiting Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant as your last dinner in Thailand. It would most definitely a special evening! The restaurant has its own motto: Kin-Poo Doo-Rue-Bin, which means having seafood and watching plane scenery. I believe this is the perfect description of Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant.
Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant is open daily from 16:00 until 00:00.
Note: Koh Lanta Suvarnabhumi Restaurant can be a bit tricky to reach, as when you don’t take the correct exit, you have to drive another half an hour to get take that correct exit again. When you drive from the direction of Sukhumvit Soi 77, follow Suvarnabhumi Exit and keep to the left lane. This looks like a very small local road, but if you follow the normal-looking road, you’ll end up taking the highway.
