Finding the best local restaurants near Lumphini Park is a bit challenging as the roads around Lumphini Park are not suitable for restaurants. For the purpose of this article, all restaurants are located a maximum five hundred meters from Lumphini Park itself and are small, local restaurants that serve extraordinary Thai food.

Best Restaurants Near Lumphini Park

The best local restaurants near Lumphini Park are:

1. Polo Fried Chicken

Polo Fried Chicken is the only restaurant in this article that is literally located opposite Lumphini Park, on the east side to be specific. As the name already suggests, Polo Fried Chicken is specialized in fried chicken. During my first visit to Thailand back in 2015, I stopped here to grab some of that super crispy chicken after I read one of Mark Wiens’ mouth-watering articles. Make sure to order at least one of the following highly recommended dishes: Fried Chicken - half (130 THB), Nam-Toke Kai Tod (80 THB) and the Pla Tub Tim Todd - Fried Fish with Garlic (250 THB). You won’t regret it, because, in my opinion, Polo Fried Chicken is the absolute best local restaurant near Lumphini Park. More general information such as opening times, location, menu prices, pictures of the restaurant and other TopTravelFoods users opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Polo Fried Chicken

2. Somtum Der

Somtum Der is a small, cosy yet good-looking restaurant where they serve all sorts of deliciously Isaan food and is located one hundred fifty meters from the southwest entrance of Lumphini Park. Somtum Der got rewarded with being listed in the Michelin Guide a few years ago, which is well-deserved obviously. The food is simply amazing. Highly recommended dishes are the House Special Grilled Marinated Pork (95 THB), Deep-Fried Spicy Minced Pork (95 THB), Grilled Coconut Milk Marinated Pork Skewers (110 THB), Der Styled Deep-Fried Chicken (85 THB) and the Spicy Papaya Salad with Deep Fried Minced Catfish (95 THB). 3. Sanguansri Restaurant

This restaurant is located more towards the Erawan Shrine but is well-worth the five hundred meters walk from Lumphini Park. The reason for this is because they serve some of the best curries in Bangkok and their green curry is listed on our Best Curries in Bangkok List. Simply put it like this, the green curry here is amazing. The Chicken Green Curry (60 THB) is available every day but somehow, strangely, their most popular Beef Green Curry (100 THB) is only available on Thursdays. Other highly recommended dishes at this local restaurant are the Blanched Pork with Peanut Sauce (60 THB) and Fried Fish with Chili Paste (100 THB). More general information such as opening times, location, menu prices, pictures of the restaurant and other TopTravelFoods users opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Sanguansri Restaurant.

4. Ran Nai Oo

More curries are incoming! Ran Nai Oo is, similar to Sanguarnsri Restaurant, widely popular among locals for its curries. This local eatery is located west of Lumphini Park, in the direction of Sam Yan MRT Station. It serves incredible creamy curries and soups for a bargain. A bowl of Penang Curry, Tom Khao Khai and green curry, also known as Gang Keow Wan Nua, only cost 30 THB! Other tasty options are the Pla Kaphong Pad Prik (30 THB), Gai Tod Pad Met Mamuang Imapan - crispy fried chicken mixed with hot dogs (50 THB). Although not a restaurant near Lumphini Park, the ten minutes walk is definitely worth it as it cannot get any more local than this. More general information such as opening times, location, menu prices, pictures of the restaurant and other TopTravelFoods users opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Ran Nai Oo.

5. Som Tum Jae Dang

Som Tum Jae Dang is a local eatery specialized in Isaan food such as som tum, nam tok and kor moo yang. The restaurant is located close to Ran Nai Oo, the previously listed restaurant. At Som Tum Jae Dang, you can expect tasty, affordable Thai food options in a local setting, with wooden tables and plastic chairs and small street cart kitchen in front of the restaurant where the food gets prepared. Highlights of this local restaurant are the Kai Tod (55 THB), Koh Moo Yang (60 THB) and the Som Tam Kai Tod (70 THB). More general information such as opening times, location, menu prices, pictures of the restaurant and other TopTravelFoods users opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Som Tum Jae Dang.

6. Hai Som Tam Convent

This hugely popular local restaurant is located the furthest from Lumphini Park but in my opinion, too good not the list it in the article. Hai Som Tam Convent is easily recognizable as the building has a light-green colour painted front. During lunchtime, people are waiting in line to get a seat and the large group of staff do their absolute best to serve the food as quick as possible. Highlights are the Larb Moo (Spicy Minced Pork with Roasted Crush Rice (95 THB), the Koh Moo Yang (Grilled Pork Neck) (100 THB) and the Pla Kung (Shrimp Tossed with Lemongrass, Onion and Chili Lime Dressing) (150 THB). More general information such as opening times, location, menu prices, pictures of the restaurant and other TopTravelFoods users opinions can be found on the TopTravelFoods review page of Hai Som Tam Convent.
